Coming Soon - Southern Arizona Airport Committee

During 1995 & 1996 the Arizona Livery Association was thrust into battle with Arizona State Legislature.

Senator's Bee from Tucson & Spitzer from Phoenix had determined, after some research of the statute that allowed transportation companies to declare gross weights that were higher than the actual GVW thus avoid having to pay state sales tax on the revenues generated by such vehicles, all limousines owners were "Liars and Thieves" and legislation was necessary to stop these practices.

On behalf of the Bond of Director's of the Arizona Limousine Association, Eddie McCoy was asked to represent the Association at the hearing on the legislation that was moving through committees. With the help of Steve Cunningham and the membership at-large.

Thereafter, the Senators wanted to meet with representatives from the Arizona Livery Association and other transportation representatives from around the state.

The Senators once again introduced legislation to revise the statutes, but this time the legislation was exactly what the Arizona Livery Association had been testifying about and before various committees.

This Process demonstrates what individuals belonging to an association can do when there are issues that affect our industry and how a show of opposition or support for a position can get the attention of the elected officials if they know the people that elected them are listening and watching

Today, the companies in the State of Arizona do not have to worry about declaring weights far in excess of their GVW or be burdened with the collection and remittance of sales taxes to the State of Arizona. (Refer to Senate Bill section)

The Arizona Livery Association has been an active participant in the efforts in Washington to both educate and lobby Congress to pass legislation dealing with the right of the limousine industry
